Las Vegas approves a stall agreement with Gritz Cafe for The Good Word, its city-run food hall on the Historic Westside
The Good Word (planned)
The Las Vegas City Council on Wednesday, Oct. 7, approved a lease agreement between the city’s redevelopment agency and Gritz Cafe for The Good Word, a dining and gathering space taking shape at 1122 D St. on the Historic Westside, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Oct. 8. The agency’s agenda summary describes a stall license agreement with a two-year initial term, one one-year extension option and monthly license payments. Gritz Cafe, a Southern and soul food restaurant that opened in 2008, plans to debut there in 2027 in its first expansion. The Review-Journal said the project has about 9,000 square feet of ground-floor space, a 2,400-square-foot mezzanine and stalls set aside for small-business incubation, with $8.7 million in funding through the redevelopment agency and Neighborhood Services Choice Communities, and the city has said it will operate the hall.
Why it matters Here the city is the landlord and the operator, and it’s signing local restaurants to short, renewable stall licenses rather than long leases.

State Fairgrounds debuts its $25 million Midway Event Center, a two-story food hall building meant for year-round use
Midway Event Center, N.C. State Fairgrounds
The new Midway Event Center at the N.C. State Fairgrounds in Raleigh will host food vendors during this year’s N.C. State Fair, which runs Oct. 15 to 25, CBS 17 reported Oct. 8. The two-story building is the first new one on the property since 2006 and will eventually hold eight permanent restaurants and a bar, with indoor seating and a terrace over the midway. State Fair director Kent Yelverton told the station it changes the fairgrounds’ business model, and organizers hope to open it year-round sometime in 2027. The N.C. Department of Agriculture says the building will host the fair’s opening ceremony on Oct. 16 and that plans also call for a large conference space for rent.
Why it matters Here a state agency built a food hall on fairgrounds that already host events, so it starts with fair crowds and will need everyday customers to stay busy the rest of the year.

Zuccaly
Zuccaly, an 8,000-square-foot Italian food hall from Da Silva Hospitality Group, began its soft opening on Thursday, Oct. 8, at The Plaza Coral Gables, 111 Palermo Ave., Miami New Times reported. It has six food stations, including pasta and risotto, Roman-style pizza, a grill, salads and antipasti, and gelato and desserts, plus an Italian market called PortaVia Gastro Market and a full bar. The group is led by restaurateur Erasmo da Silva, who’s also behind Zucca and Hereford Grill. During the soft opening, the hall is running shorter hours and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Why it matters Here one restaurant group runs every station, the market and the bar itself, instead of leasing stalls to separate vendors.

The Junction, a 60,000-square-foot Georgetown venue with a food hall inside, is aiming for a November opening
The Junction (pre-opening)
The Junction, an entertainment venue from Georgetown-based Cooley Capital Cos., is approaching a November opening, partner Matt Marshall told Community Impact, which reported it Oct. 1. The 60,000-square-foot project at 210 Blue Springs Blvd. includes a grand dining hall with individual food vendors, plus three pickleball courts, multiple full-service bars, private cabanas and a live music stage. Sweet Lemon Kitchen, Dough-Go Pizza, King’s Chicken Wings, Taconmaye, JABS Smashburger and Shawarma Point will open in the dining space, and a company news release says the food stalls are being built to each vendor’s specifications. The Williamson County Sun reported Oct. 5 that construction is moving forward toward an estimated November opening.
Why it matters Here the food stalls sit inside a bigger entertainment venue with pickleball, bars and a stage, and each stall is being built out for a named vendor before opening day.

Potluck at Rosedale Center
Potluck, the food hall inside the Rosedale Center mall in Roseville, will close in mid-October, Lisa Crain, vice president and group manager for the mall, told the Minnesota Star Tribune on Oct. 7. Crain didn’t give a reason but said the mall hopes to announce a replacement for the space by early next year. FOX 9 reported that Potluck opened in 2019 as a food hall concept and is home to local restaurants including OG ZaZa Pizza, Smack Shack, Legendary Spice, Black Coffee & Waffle Bar and Tio’s Tacos. OG ZaZa Pizza owner Joshua Hedquist told FOX 9 that Potluck is where his business got its start, and Smack Shack owner Josh Thoma said in a statement that the restaurant is working on finding a place to relocate.
Why it matters Here the mall owner decided to close the hall and says a replacement is coming, which leaves its vendors, including some whose only restaurant is there, looking for new spaces.

Lincoln South Food Hall
Great State Burger and King Leroy, which shared one connected space on the second floor of Lincoln Square South at 500 Bellevue Way NE, have closed at Lincoln South Food Hall, the Downtown Bellevue Network reported Oct. 7. A sign posted outside says Mean Sandwich, a Seattle sandwich shop, plans to open in the space. The two brands opened together in August 2024 in the space Burbs Burgers had used, and the hall’s newest tenant, the acai brand Oakberry, opened in July. The hall closed for a refresh in March 2022, ownership passed from Ascend Hospitality Group to Kemper Development Company, and it reopened in June 2023 with a new lineup.
Why it matters When two brands share one stall they can leave together, and here the whole space already has a new sandwich tenant lined up.

Avanti Food & Beverage
For Your Boca, serving tacos, bowls and shareable starters, opens Monday, Oct. 12, in the upstairs stall at Avanti Food & Beverage in LoHi that Amá Modern Mexican used to occupy, Westword reported Oct. 7. It’s the second concept at the hall for Kaitlyn Peot and Brandon Spain, the husband-and-wife owners of Knockabout Burgers, which sits right next door. Longtime employee Ricardo Avila is the executive chef. Westword noted that Avanti, at 3200 Pecos St., has also brought in Berliner Haus and Ciao Babe in recent years.
Why it matters Here an empty stall went to owners who already run the stall next door, so the new concept opens with a team that already knows the hall.

Underground Atlanta has letters of intent with four local operators for its six-stall food hall
Underground Atlanta food hall (planned)
Underground Atlanta’s owner, Lalani Ventures, said Sept. 30 that it has signed letters of intent with four local operators for a six-stall food hall it’s building at the corner of Alabama and Pryor streets, in a former Foot Locker space, Urbanize Atlanta reported. The food hall is now under construction and is scheduled to open sometime next year. The company says the downtown district is 65 percent occupied, up from 5 percent when it bought the property in 2020, and it’s working toward 90 percent. Lalani Ventures says it has spent more than $50 million on Underground’s revival so far.
Why it matters Here a small food hall is one piece of a larger plan to refill a downtown district, and four of its six stalls already have signed letters of intent while the space is still being built.

Bradley Street Market (planned)
Madison’s Historic Preservation Commission approved a Certificate of Appropriateness for Bradley Street Market at 14 Bradley St. during its September meetings, 256 Today and WAFF reported Oct. 6. Developer JMATT 3X LLC plans to renovate two former agricultural warehouses totaling about 20,365 square feet on roughly 1.3 acres into a food hall with nine to 11 small retail and quick-service restaurant spaces, plus a flex hall for offices, retail vendors and indoor and outdoor gathering space. Nashville-based Moody Nolan is the design firm, and the plans keep the warehouses’ brick, corrugated metal panels, flooring and barn doors. Brenda Matthews, vice chair of the Main Street Madison District, told WAFF she expects the newly approved downtown projects to be active and usable within 12 to 18 months.
Why it matters Historic review is an early hurdle for halls planned inside old buildings, and this one has now cleared it in a downtown that local leaders say has few restaurants and little office space.

Founders Food Hall
Urban Gourmet, a Columbus restaurant known for burgers, pasta bowls and sandwiches, will open its second location at Founders Food Hall in downtown Mount Vernon, following its original location at East Market Food Hall in Columbus, Your Ohio News reported Oct. 6. It plans to open in October as the hall’s sixth kitchen. Founders, at 18 E. Vine St. in the former Mount Vernon News building, currently has five kitchens and a bar, and its website describes an eight-kitchen hall. The hall is owned by the Knox County Land Bank, whose president, Sam Filkins, called Urban Gourmet a proven concept, and it’s also adding music bingo, paint-and-sip events, duckpin bowling and live music.
Why it matters A publicly owned hall in a small city is filling its open kitchens partly by recruiting a vendor that already runs a stall in a big-city food hall nearby.

HallPass
Gastronomic SLC reported Oct. 1 that Hog & Tradition, a barbecue counter, has left HallPass, the food hall and sports bar at The Gateway in downtown Salt Lake City, for its own restaurant in West Valley City. Owner Geoff Patmides told the outlet that his other HallPass concept, The Local Greek, has also left and will continue as a virtual brand run out of the new location. Gastronomic SLC said HallPass, which is operated by Nice Hospitality Group, has added a new barbecue vendor called Nice BBQ, and that the sandwich chain Capriotti’s has opened in the hall too. The outlet noted the hall has seen quite a few changes over the past 18 months.
Why it matters When a homegrown vendor moves on to its own restaurant, the operator has to refill the stall, and here the replacements are a new barbecue counter and a sandwich chain.

Wash Ave Food Hall signs Arzola’s Tacos y Más and now plans a late October or early November opening
Wash Ave Food Hall
St. Louis Magazine and Sauce Magazine reported Oct. 5 that Arzola’s Tacos y Más, a new fast-casual concept from the owners of Arzola’s Fajitas & Margaritas, will be a founding vendor at Wash Ave Food Hall, 1122 Washington Ave. The St. Louis Business Journal said that brings the hall to seven confirmed vendors, with room for eight food vendors and two bars. St. Louis Magazine now puts the opening at late October or early November, after earlier reports targeted October, and says the final vendors will be announced this month. Co-owner Ron Webb told the magazine that opening the group’s second brick-and-mortar location took “an immense amount of heavy lifting” and that the food hall model “allowed for a much smoother transition.”
Why it matters Webb’s comments show why a ready-built stall can appeal to an established local restaurant that wants to grow without building out another full location.

Willock tract (proposed food halls)
The Celina Economic Development Corporation’s board was set to review the Willock Master Plan for its roughly 32-acre tract near downtown at its Oct. 6 meeting, according to the agenda packet. The plan, prepared by Norris Design with JHP and Catalyst Commercial, shows a pair of food hall buildings at Oklahoma Drive and Ash Street on about 2.2 acres that can hold roughly 18,000 square feet, aimed at a family-friendly setting and farm-to-table food. The consultants estimate the food hall, brewery and restaurant area at 57,000 square feet and about $37 million in taxable value at full build-out. Community Impact reported that the EDC bought the land for $13.5 million in 2024 and will present the plan to the City Council on Oct. 13, with rezoning, infrastructure and securing tenants among the next steps.
Why it matters When a city’s development arm owns the land and draws food halls into its master plan, their size and location are being set before any developer or operator has been chosen.

Arcadia Yard (planned)
Columbus Business First reported Oct. 1 that the design for Arcadia Yard won approval from the city panel that oversees architecture in the neighborhood. The plans, filed for 21 E. Arcadia Ave. near Clintonville, would turn two long-vacant brick buildings built in 1949 for Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric into a food hall with four vendor kitchens in each building, dining areas, a bar and lounge, a rooftop terrace and a shared courtyard, according to Columbus Navigator’s May report on the filing. Business First described the project in June as the third idea in a decade to bring life to the fenced-off former AEP substation.
Why it matters A small hall built from modular kitchens inside existing buildings is one way developers are taking on sites where earlier redevelopment plans have fallen through.

City Center Market at Crooked Can
Crooked Can Brewing Co. opened its roughly 43,000-square-foot Minneola complex at Hills City Center on July 15 with just hours’ notice, and the Daily Commercial said then that the rest of the City Center Market food hall stalls would roll out over the coming weeks. A Daily Commercial photo tour published Sept. 30 showed Three Birds Cafe, Daniel’s Cheesesteaks, This Little Piggy, AJ’s Pizza, Sir Benji’s and a Brazilian counter open, while dim sum, noodles and sushi were still listed as coming soon and Pita Mediterranean Street Food was about a month from opening. The Orlando Real reported in June that the 11 vendors were chosen from more than 100 applicants and that Crooked Can’s Plant Street Market in Winter Garden would keep operating.
Why it matters Opening before every stall is built lets the brewery and the first vendors start selling sooner, while the rest of the lineup arrives over months instead of on day one.

Plaza del Sol soft opens its food hall on St. Paul’s East Side
Plaza del Sol
The Latino Economic Development Center said Sept. 30 that Plaza del Sol would soft open at 11 a.m. on Oct. 1 at 990 Payne Ave. after construction delays. Food hall vendors opening that day include Bien Dorados, La Moreliana and Valentina’s, with Deli Cheese Coffee planned within a few weeks. LEDC’s earlier project notes describe two full restaurant kitchens and three turnkey food stands, plus a shared commissary kitchen and event center in the same building. The center is still recruiting for the food hall, commissary and event spaces.
Why it matters A nonprofit-owned hall that bundles stalls, a shared kitchen and an event center is one way operators lower the startup cost for independent food vendors.

Eat Your Heart Out at Durango
Station Casinos told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Thursday, Oct. 1, that Eat Your Heart Out, the food hall that opened with Durango in December 2023, is closing three outlets, with a fourth closing in the lobby. Uncle Paulie’s closed Wednesday and will host unnamed pop-ups until a replacement is named. Yu-Or-Mi Sushi and the Vesta Coffee Roasters counters in the hall and lobby will close Nov. 10, with replacements to be announced. The casino said the changes come as Durango works on a north-side expansion that will include an expanded food hall, bowling, Moonshine Flats and luxury movie theaters.
Why it matters Turning over original stalls while an expansion is underway shows how casino halls refresh the lineup before they grow the footprint.

Cross Street Market
What Now reported Oct. 2, citing the Baltimore Business Journal, that salad and wrap chain Nalley Fresh is opening in Cross Street Market at 1065 S. Charles St. in Federal Hill, in the stall previously occupied by DMV Empanadas. Owner Greg Nalley said he expects the stall to be customer-ready by late October and will serve lunch and dinner seven days a week. The menu will keep the build-your-own salads and wraps and add tavern-style dishes such as brisket cheesesteaks. DMV Empanadas closed that stall on May 17, 2026.
Why it matters A chain shifting from large storefronts into a market stall is one more example of operators using food halls for a smaller, faster footprint.

The roughly 15,000-square-foot space at 2700 Northwest Second Avenue is leased to Casa Tua Cucina, an Italian food hall that opened there in April, and the sellers provided $26 million in financing. Casa Tua also operates a food hall at Brickell City Center and a restaurant in Miami Beach. The joint venture finished the nine-story, 329-condo building this year after buying the site for $26.5 million in 2021.

Farewinds opens fully to the public at Kilroy Oyster Point
Farewinds
Bon Appetit Management Company and Kilroy Realty Corporation said Thursday, Oct. 1, that Farewinds, the waterfront market hall at Kilroy Oyster Point in South San Francisco, is now fully open to the public after months of serving the campus community. The site lists a market for coffee and grab-and-go plus a food hall with three global eateries led by executive chef Francisco Melchor, and it is open Monday through Friday for breakfast and lunch. A full bar and evening service are planned later. Designed by Rapt Studio, the space sits at 357 Oyster Point Blvd. with views of the bay.
Why it matters It is a campus-anchored market hall opening first to tenants, then to the public, which is a common path for halls tied to office and life science projects.

Named vendors so far include Seoul Kravings (Korean street food), Dough Market (Asian-inspired doughnuts, pastries and coffee) and Rice Culture (Filipino Japanese taiyaki and soft serve), which already has outlets in Vienna and Chantilly. A Vietnamese counter and a full bar are also planned. A contractor confirmed the food hall use earlier this year when the mural went up.

Reading Terminal Market Corp. released its first economic impact report on Sept. 15, saying nearly 6 million visitors spent an estimated $1.2 billion across Philadelphia last year, not only inside the market. The study by Econsult Solutions put the market’s annual economic activity at about $126 million for the city and $146 million for Pennsylvania, counting direct spending at more than 75 vendors plus related vendor and employee spending. About 3.1 million visitors were overnight guests in the region, 18 merchants accept SNAP and EBT, and the market and its corporation together support nearly 700 full-time-equivalent jobs with about $39 million in annual pay. CEO Annie Allman said the report is meant to back continued investment in the market, its merchants and its infrastructure.

Commas Food Hall
Commas, on the third floor of the Ellsworth Place mall in downtown Silver Spring, held a grand reopening on Saturday, Sept. 26, its one-year anniversary. Vendors told Bethesda Today the first year was tough, with empty stalls at opening and times of low foot traffic. A judge put Spinoso Real Estate Group in charge of the mall as receiver in January, and the hall’s operations manager said that change let Commas restructure vendor contracts and improve its marketing. Kellem Coffee has opened, Nips Juice House is still waiting on county permits, and two stalls are still empty.
Why it matters It shows how closely a hall inside a mall is tied to the mall itself: Commas says its traffic follows the mall’s busy seasons, and the change in mall management opened the door to new vendor terms.

Atlanta takes another run at filling the empty Grant Park Gateway rooftop space
Grant Park Gateway (proposed)
Atlanta’s Department of Procurement scheduled an Oct. 2 pre-solicitation conference for the Grant Park Gateway Rooftop Food and Beverage Commercial Enterprise, a finished space of more than 7,000 square feet next to Zoo Atlanta that has sat empty for about six years, Urbanize Atlanta reported. A 2023 request for proposals drew no takers, a 2024 pick, Savi Provisions, pulled out, and a micro food hall plan from Terminus Commercial Real Estate Partners was endorsed and then dropped. In a neighborhood survey with about 750 responses, a micro food hall was one of the top three requests, and the city’s questionnaire asks potential operators about lease rates, profit-sharing leases and tenant improvements.
Why it matters It’s an open city-owned opportunity where a small food hall is one of the uses neighbors asked for, and past attempts show how hard the terms have been to make work.

Block 16 Urban Food Hall
Bang Bar by Momofuku, David Chang’s flatbread and rice bowl counter in Block 16 Urban Food Hall at The Cosmopolitan, will close Oct. 4, MGM Resorts announced. Another concept from Momofuku and China Palace Group is planned for the space in 2027. Bang Bar opened in April 2021, when it replaced Pok Pok Wing.
Why it matters The same operator is lined up to replace its own stall, which keeps a name chef in the hall even with a gap before the new concept opens.

Bowen Yard
The Winter Haven City Commission unanimously approved tax incentives and construction plans for Bowen Yard West, a $2.6 million project that will nearly double the downtown food hall’s footprint. Owner Six/Ten LLC plans to redevelop four vacant buildings next door and lease them for $18 to $24 per square foot a year. Under the deal, Six/Ten gets back 50% of the new property taxes the project generates for 10 years, an estimated $480,526. Construction is expected to start this fall and take about six months; Bowen Yard opened in 2023 on a former citrus manufacturing site.
Why it matters Tax increment deals like this one are a common way cities help fund food hall expansions, and the proposal spells out the lease rates the owner is asking.

Oak & Ocean Marketplace
The City of Jacksonville issued a permit on Sept. 16 for the Oak & Ocean Marketplace food hall at Jacksonville International Airport, covering $3.75 million in tenant improvements for 7,500 square feet. The first four tenants are Chick-fil-A, Panda Express and the Northeast Florida brands V Pizza and Willie Jewell’s Old School Bar-B-Q, which the aviation authority approved for 15-year leases in November 2025; HMSHost will staff and manage them. The hall sits just past security at the entrance to the new six-gate Concourse B, which is set for a Jan. 27 ribbon-cutting.
Why it matters Airports keep using the food hall label for post-security dining clusters run by one concessionaire, which is a different model from an independent hall.

Chain uses a six-month food hall residency to test a longer-term format
Topanga Social
Chain, the chef-driven fast-food nostalgia brand that has mostly run pop-ups since 2021, started a six-month residency on Sept. 2 at Topanga Social, the 55,000-square-foot food hall inside Westfield Topanga in Canoga Park. Chefs Roy Choi, Calvin Eng, Mason Hereford and Mei Lin are creating dishes for it, and Chain plans monthly brand collaborations there. CEO Steve Milton told Fast Casual the company wants to learn how guests respond in a high-traffic retail setting before it announces anything permanent.
Why it matters A fixed-term residency gives a hall a known name for a set stretch and gives the brand a low-commitment test, a different deal shape from a standard multi-year stall lease.

Morgan Street Food Hall
Sam Jones BBQ is opening its second Raleigh location inside Morgan Street Food Hall, less than a mile from its restaurant on West Lenoir Street, WRAL reported. The food hall stall will have a limited food and drink menu and is expected to open by the end of the year. Jones said Morgan Street founder Niall Hanley approached him about the space and was flexible and easy to work with.
Why it matters It shows a hall going after an established local name rather than waiting for applicants, and a brand willing to open a small-format second location close to its flagship.

Brookfield Public Market
A ceremonial groundbreaking for Brookfield Public Market is set for Oct. 10 at Brookfield Square, The Freeman reported. The market will turn the mall’s north end, the former Boston Store site at 95 N. Moorland Road, into a destination for food, drinks and experiences, bringing together food and beverage providers, retail vendors, community events and an event space. It’s a collaboration of the City of Brookfield, Visit Brookfield and Irgens Development, with opening expected in late fall 2027.
Why it matters Former department store boxes keep turning up as food hall and market sites, and this one pairs a developer with the city and its tourism office.

Gray Moon Public Market
Gray Moon Public Market opened in a former Montgomery Ward building in downtown Newton after a $4.8 million historic renovation, funded in part with state and federal historic tax credits plus a grant and a forgivable loan from the city. The roughly 15,000-square-foot building has 16 businesses, including food vendors, a bar and event space, and a second-floor retail co-op where owners share one register; owner Jerry Schwaller said the upstairs retail is full with a waiting list. He told Business Record the market is working through foot traffic and awareness issues, and that downtown revitalization probably takes three to five years.
Why it matters It’s a candid look at the first months of a small-town market hall, where public incentives got the building open but steady customer traffic is still the open question.

We pick three to five stories from the past week that matter to developers and operators: openings and closings, new projects, financing and sales, leasing and vendor turnover, and how halls are doing.
Each item links to the local paper, trade publication or official announcement it came from, with the date it ran, plus one plain sentence on why it matters.
When a hall has a page in our directory, we link it so you can see where it is and what’s inside.
