The Source Food Hall Denver, Colorado
The Source
The Source is Denver's original modern market hall and the catalyst that transformed RiNo into one of America's hottest arts districts. Housed in a beautifully restored 1880s brick iron foundry, this 45,000 square-foot dual-market complex features 25+ independent artisan vendors, including chef-driven restaurants, craft breweries, specialty retail, and a 100-room boutique hotel. What began in 2013 as a visionary adaptive reuse project has become an internationally recognized destination, earning accolades from The New York Times, GQ, and the Michelin Guide while establishing the blueprint for food halls across the country.
About The Source
When The Source opened in May 2013, it introduced Denver to an entirely new concept: a European-style market hall where artisans, makers, and food purveyors share a communal space. Developer Zeppelin Development transformed the abandoned 1880s H.H. Tammen Ironworks foundry into a light-filled marketplace that celebrates craft, community, and the maker culture.
The original market hall set the stage, but in 2018, Zeppelin expanded the complex with a second market hall and the 100-room Source Hotel, connected by a dramatic elevated pedestrian bridge. The hotel tower, designed by Dynia Architects, was intentionally shaped to echo the low-rise industrial buildings that define RiNo's character while offering breathtaking views of the Rockies and Denver skyline.
The Concept & Philosophy
Unlike typical food courts, The Source operates on a "makers culture" philosophy. Many vendors produce their goods on-siteβyou can watch bakers pulling artisan loaves from ovens, brewers crafting experimental beers, and butchers breaking down whole animals. This transparency creates an immersive experience where guests don't just consume products but witness the craft behind them.
The Source also pioneered the rotating pop-up model in Denver, hosting everything from farmers markets and international fashion designers to guest chef residencies and artist installations. This ensures the space constantly evolves, rewarding repeat visitors with fresh discoveries.
