Brick Building restoration
The historic Brick Building remains closed following the July 2023 electrical fire. Displaced merchants continue operating from a temporary structure beside the Stone Building while restoration work moves forward. The market currently lists the Brick Building for a 2027 reopening.

About Broad Street Market
Broad Street Market has served Harrisburg since 1860 and describes itself as America’s oldest continuously operating market house. Its historic footprint stretches across three city blocks in Midtown, only a few blocks north of the Pennsylvania State Capitol.
The market began during the Civil War era, when it helped feed Union soldiers stationed at nearby Camp Curtin. The Stone Building was completed in 1863, followed by the Brick Building between 1874 and 1878. Today, the market remains a community gathering place for prepared foods, produce, meat and seafood, coffee, baked goods, craft beverages, specialty retail and events.
Broad Street Market is owned by the City of Harrisburg and operated day to day by the Broad Street Market Alliance, a community-focused nonprofit organization.
